Kinda Saw This Coming

Spectre Divide dropped September 3, 2024, and man, the Spectre Divide 2.0 flop was basically doomed from there. Closed beta had you hunting keys, launch had some buzz, but now? 344 players on Steam. I’m just sitting here like, “What even happened to this thing?

Shroud Got Me Into It

Shroud talking about Spectre Divide

Found this game through Shroud—huge fan, learned a ton from him. He was part of making it, so I was all in. Felt like Valorant beta days, watching Twitch for a key. Got one, played beta, hit launch with some friends. Most of ‘em bounced quick—said it looked like Valorant but not as pretty. Kinda get it.

Dual Characters Were Neat

I liked it, though. That two-character deal—swapping between bodies—was pretty cool. Played a bunch in beta and launch, didn’t mind the optimization or wait times too much. Skins, though? Way too pricey. I’ll grab CS skins ‘cause I can trade ‘em, but these? No trades, all expensive—c’mon, toss in some cheap ones for us normal folks.

Just Stopped Clicking

After a bit, I stopped playing. Didn’t hook me like Valorant or CS, and the player count was shrinking. Devs didn’t give me much reason to stick around either. Then they tease this Spectre Divide 2.0 flop—sprinting, new buy menu, big stuff. Got me interested again, but the release was months away. Like, why hype it up just to make us wait forever?

2.0 Landed Flat

Spectre Divide running gameplay

When 2.0 came, there was no hype. No trailers, no Shroud streaming, no nothing. Went from 1,500 players to 300 in a day—most people didn’t even know it was out! Could’ve paid streamers or thrown up some ads, but nah, they just hoped it’d sell itself. Didn’t work.

Such a Waste, Man

Now it’s 344 players on Steam, and they even put it on consoles—nobody’s there either. Game had good gunplay, solid maps, that dual-body trick, and Shroud’s name, but this Spectre Divide 2.0 flop stings. Mountaintop’s first shot, and it’s a miss. Hope they figure it out or try something new—just push it better next time.

Ties Back to FragPunk

This whole thing’s got me thinking about my last post—check “Is FragPunk Hype Too Good to Trust?” if you’re up for it. Spectre’s fading, but FragPunk’s still got a chance. What do you think—Spectre worth saving, or done? Drop it below!
