Sometimes, my brothers and I fire up some old party games just to have fun and forget about the world for a bit. Revisiting Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 was an absolute blast. My brothers and I fired up this chaotic co-op shooter, eager to relive the fun we had years ago. Last time, we had to cut our session short because one of my brothers was dealing with some technical issues. But this time? We were all set. And let me tell you—IT. WAS. AMAZING.

There’s something about these good old-fashioned games where you just jump in, shoot some zombies, and have an absolute riot. We went for the wave survival mode—10 waves of zombies charging at a plant we had to protect. Our job? Hold the line as an army of plants. And, man, was it fun.

Now, for whatever reason (probably overconfidence), we decided to start on the crazy difficulty—aka “you must be out of your mind” mode. Our logic? “We’ve been gaming for years, we got this.” Reality? Nope. That mode is designed for people who have only played PvZ their entire lives. We barely made it to the first boss fight at wave 5 before getting absolutely destroyed. We burned through all our auto-revives, threw everything we had at it—and still failed. It wasn’t even a close call; it was an embarrassing wipeout.

So, humbled and slightly traumatized, we dropped the difficulty to high for the next round. And this time, we actually made it! The gameplay was simple, but the fun was through the roof. I played as the Peashooter, my cousin picked the Sunflower (because someone had to heal us), and my brother went for the Citron—a rolling orange tank-thing with a shield and some wild abilities.

We switched maps after that and tackled another full session. After surviving 10 waves, we had to sprint to the extraction point for our grand escape—only to get judged by the game’s end screen. And guess what? I was always at the top of the leaderboard (because, obviously, I’m a geek – hehe). Meanwhile, my two 30-year-old brothers were locked in a heated battle for second place. Yes, I absolutely rubbed it in their faces, and yes, I am proud of it.

To sum it up: this was easily one of the best gaming sessions we’ve had in a while. Between the chaotic fights, the moments of pure panic, and the ridiculous things we laughed about, it was just a fantastic time. And honestly, for an EA game running in 2025, I expected something to go wrong. But nope—everything worked perfectly. Or maybe I was having too much fun to notice any issues. Either way, I highly recommend grabbing this game when it’s on sale and playing it with your crew.

The only regret? I forgot to stream it. That would’ve been gold. But hey, you can check out my YouTube channel anyway. And if you haven’t played Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 in a while, now’s the perfect time to revisit it—it’s still just as chaotic and fun as ever! Also, I recently put together a list of couch co-op games on sale—you might wanna check that out too! (I’ll drop the link here)
