On February 4th, 2025, Warhorse Studios launched Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the original. As the release date approached, my excitement kept growing because of the confidence the Warhorse Studios team displayed. They sent out review copies to content creators a whole month before launch—which is a bold move!
A Record-Breaking Launch

Now, just one day after release, the numbers speak for themselves:
- 159,351 peak concurrent players
- 94,722 active players at the time of writing
- Over 6,000 reviews on Steam, maintaining a Very Positive rating
For a single-player RPG, these stats are insane! Seeing such engagement on launch day proves that Warhorse has delivered something special.
My Initial Experience with KCD1

I had tried Kingdom Come: Deliverance (KCD1) before. I remember when Epic Games Store gave it away for free, and I installed it out of curiosity. But back then, I wasn’t impressed.
- The anti-aliasing was rough—jagged edges everywhere.
- Combat felt sluggish.
- Lock-picking was infuriating.
- Random bugs/glitches
- The opening cut-scenes were long, and after about two hours, I uninstalled it, thinking, this isn’t for me.
What Changed?

Fast forward a few years, after sinking hours into The Witcher 3 and similar RPGs, I developed a love for deep, immersive worlds. When I saw the hype for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, something clicked.
Instead of jumping straight into the sequel, I gave KCD1 another shot—this time, with Quality of Life mods and an open mind. And wow, what a difference!
- The casual NPC conversations felt real.
- Combat, once I learned parrying, became insanely fun.
- Lock-picking? Still hated it. But I found a workaround—I use a mouse & keyboard for locks and switch back to my controller for the rest.
The Freedom of Choice

One of the best parts of KCD1 is how it gives players multiple ways to solve problems—without holding their hand. A perfect example? The Kunesh quest at the start.
You need to recover some money from Kunesh, and there are at least four ways to handle it:
- Talk to him – He flat-out refuses.
- Fight him – Good luck; he’ll beat you up.
- Steal from him – He locks his valuables in a chest, so you’ll need a lock-pick.
- Brawl him with your friends – The most fun option!
I decided to go for option #4 (after going through all the others options in one play-through). I helped my friends with a task, gained their trust, and then we ganged up on Kunesh together. It was hilarious watching them follow me from one place to another before we finally confronted him.
Hours later, I ran into Kunesh again in the city—he still remembered the brawl and was terrified of me. That level of persistence in an RPG world is just chef’s kiss.
Final Thoughts

After revisiting Kingdom Come: Deliverance, I now appreciate its slow-paced, realistic world. It’s not for everyone, but if you love detailed RPGs, you need to try this game. And with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 now out, there’s no better time to jump in.

Are you playing KCD2 yet, or did the hype make you revisit the first game like me? Let me know in the comments!
Felt the same about KD1 combat and didn’t play much, but planning on trying the KD2 after looking at the changes.
I hope there is no major correlation between the 2games
