Alright, gaming fam! Your boy Debasish is back with another dose of unfiltered thoughts on the latest and greatest hitting our screens.

Forget corporate-speak and overly polished reviews – I’m here to tell you how I really feel about these upcoming titles. Let’s dive in!

1. Elden Ring Nightreign – FromSoft Does Roguelike Co-op?!

Elden ring nightreign cover photo

This one’s coming from FromSoftware, taking us back to the Elden Ring world with a co-op roguelike twist and procedural environments and boss changes!

This is something completely different than what FromSoft usually does. Given their penchant for crushing our souls with meticulously crafted, static worlds, this feels like a wild experiment. Word on the street is they’re aiming for “infinite replayability” by mixing the gameplay in new ways each playthrough, a departure from their traditional set-piece style.

I’m intrigued and terrified at the same time. My excitement levels? Pretty medium!

Coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X. I’m betting on a Summer release.

2. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad – Mobile Game Woes or a Hidden Gem?

Game of thrones kingsroad cover

Developed and published by Netmarble. When this was announced, players were unhappy about the “looks” of the game, saying it looks like a mobile game (because it is!).

But hear me out: if it’s well-written with some good action sequences, everyone will be happy eventually. Just because a game looks bad doesn’t mean it will be a bad game.

Main protagonist of the game Game of thrones Kingsroad

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an action RPG for PC that will transport you to the greatly realistic and popular world of Game of Thrones. The different houses of Westeros will begin a fierce struggle for the Iron Throne, and you must bravely make your way through conspiracies and battles through recognizable settings of the series. But watch out, because every inch of the map will be full of white walkers and other enemies that will test your potential as a future ruler.

I’m cautiously optimistic. If they nail the political intrigue and don’t make it too pay-to-win, it could be surprisingly good.

Coming to PC and Mobile this year.

3. Where Winds Meet – A Visual Masterpiece Waiting to Land?

Where winds meet cover

Developed by Everstone Games and published by NetEase Games. This recently launched in China, but the world is still waiting for it. It’s a beautiful-looking game. It had a beta test last year, and the response was pretty good.

Embark on an unforgettable journey in Where Winds Meet, an open-world action-adventure RPG set in ancient China’s tumultuous Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era.

Explore a land ravaged by war and territorial disputes, where political intrigue, power struggles, and epic battles shape the course of history. Amidst the chaos, discover a world brimming with cultural richness and prosperity, where heroes rise and legends are born.

I’m blown away by the visuals! The gameplay videos look stunning. This has serious potential to be the next big open-world RPG. I’m keeping my eye on this one!

Coming to PS5 and PC this year.

4. Lost Soul Aside – Anime Action with a Final Fantasy Vibe

Lost soul aside main character

Developed by Ultizero Games and published by PlayStation Publishing LLC.

Embark on an epic odyssey to save your sister and the whole of humankind from dimensional invaders in Lost Soul Aside – a stylish single-player action-adventure RPG.

Chain lightning-fast combos, learn new abilities, and upgrade your weapons as you take on formidable enemies and colossal bosses in fast, dynamic combat.

Lost soul aside main character

This has a clear inspiration from the Final Fantasy series and looks really good. It started off as a single-person project, but when Sony said they would publish it, now they have a team working on it – which is cool.

I love seeing passion projects like this succeed! The action looks slick, and the world seems intriguing. Definitely one to watch.

Coming to PS5 and PC this year.

5. Ballad of Antara – Gacha Souls-like? Color Me Intrigued (and Slightly Worried)

In a distant land, a mist-like plague devastates the common world with unknown malice.

Infold Games and developer TipsWorks have announced that their upcoming free-to-play fantasy action game Ballad of Antara. It has a lot in common with Genshin Impact combat-like gacha mechanics with a mix of Souls-like combat with a mix of Black Myth: Wukong with a little hint of Monster Hunter.

Begin a perilous journey, seek towering, divine creatures, and retrieve those twisted and lost ‘essences’ of the land.

Okay, the description alone is a rollercoaster! Gacha mechanics and Souls-like combat? That’s a bold combo.

I’m curious to see how they balance those elements. If they can pull it off, it could be amazing!

Coming to PC, Mobile devices via iOS and Android, and PS5.

6. Assassin’s Creed Shadows – Ubisoft’s Last Stand?

Assassin's creed shadow's cover image where both the main characters are ready to fight

Developed by many of the Ubisoft studios and published by Ubisoft.

Ubisoft has to nail this to the mark, or else they are really done as a company. They have made some bad decisions recently in terms of investing, and this is their last hope.

Experience an epic action-adventure story set in Feudal Japan!

Become a lethal shinobi Assassin and a powerful, legendary samurai as you explore a beautiful open world in a time of chaos. Switch between these two unlikely allies as you discover their common destiny. Master complementary playstyles, create your shinobi league, customize your hideout, and usher in a new era for Japan.

Look, I’m a sucker for Assassin’s Creed, and feudal Japan is a dream setting. But after some recent missteps, Ubisoft needs to deliver.

Naoe and Yasuke showing their skills

I’m hoping for a return to form, with engaging stealth, compelling characters, and a world that feels alive. Fingers crossed!

Coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on March 20, 2025.

7. Avowed – Obsidian’s First-Person Fantasy? Yes, Please!

Avowed skull holding a sword to fight

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios.

Welcome to the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger.

Set in the fictional world of Eora that was first introduced to players in the Pillars of Eternity franchise, Avowed is a first-person fantasy action RPG from the award-winning team at Obsidian Entertainment.

The Living Lands is an island where the air hums with ancient magic, the flora seems to move with a mind of its own, and the ground beneath your feet shifts with secrets waiting to be unearthed.

I’m a huge fan of their writing and world-building, and the gameplay snippets look promising. I’m expecting a deep, immersive experience with tough choices and memorable characters.

Coming to PC and Xbox Series S/X on February 18, 2025.

8. The First Berserker: Khazan – Souls-like Fury with Style

The First Berserker: Khazan cover

Developed by Neople and will be published by NEXON.

This is another action RPG. If you love the Souls-like genre, this one is for you. They also have a free demo available where you can play for 2-3 hours, depending on how many times you die.

There you fight 1-2 mini-bosses and one main boss. I’ve played the demo, and I genuinely love the art style and the animations.

The First Berserker: Khazan's character showing off the skills

The First Berserker: Khazan is a hardcore action RPG based on the Dungeon Fighter Online (DnF) universe, Nexon’s flagship IP with more than 800 million players worldwide. Set 800 years before the events of DnF, the game unfolds on the continent of Arad and explores the untold story of Khazan, the first Berserker. Players will experience Khazan’s legendary journey firsthand as they master intricate and engaging combat mechanics and strategic battles that bring his epic tale to life.

I’m digging the cel-shaded graphics and the fast-paced combat. If you’re itching for a new Souls-like challenge, this could be it!

Coming to PS5, PC, and Xbox Series S/X on March 27, 2025.

9. Phantom Blade Zero – Kungfupunk Mayhem

Phantom blade zero's main character

Developed and will be published by S-GAME.

It is again a very fast-paced action-adventure game where I personally feel like a mix of Black Myth: Wukong + Devil May Cry series. The action animations are so well done that they look very fluent and beautiful to execute. You feel like a badass upon executing the moves. They have different combos, and switching through weapons is also part of the gameplay, and you increase the action time by switching through weapons and continuing the combos.

Phantom Blade Zero - Announce Trailer action

They recently released a new gameplay showcase while fighting a boss, and it amazed me like before. Recently, we got to know that after seeing the success of Black Myth: Wukong, they got a huge investment, which is really good to listen to as they are improving the game day by day.

Phantom Blade Zero is an action role-playing game. The player controls Soul, an elite assassin who serves a mysterious and powerful organization known as The Order. He carries two primary weapons and two secondary weapons.

The hype is real with this one! The combat looks stylish, fluid, and incredibly satisfying. I’m all in for kungfupunk!

Coming to PS5 and PC in 2025.

10. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 – My Medieval Dream

Kingdom come deliverance wallpaper

Developed by Warhorse Studios and published by Deep Silver.

I have already talked about this game a lot many times in my blog posts. It released on Feb 4, 2025, and it did really well among many different types of players.

It is now at 89 in OpenCritic, which is really good for a first-person RPG game that is completely focused on storytelling. Some people don’t like the slow-paced story in the beginning. For a company that didn’t do well initially in the first game’s release, they worked really hard to give the best experience possible on the release of the second game.

KCD 2 quick about info

The game did really good in terms of optimization and other technical aspects which impressed many. They gave the review copy to the content creators like a month before the release that shows the confidence on the product.

This is the RPG I’ve been waiting for! Realistic, gritty, and focused on story.

Available Now.

11. Fable – Can Playground Games Revive a Legend?

Fable's main character smiling at a NPC

Developed by Playground Games and will be published by Xbox Game Studios. This game does not have a release date yet, but it is slated for 2025.

However, personally, I feel that it will launch next year itself around summer 2026 – let’s see.

Fable 4 is coming to us from Forza Horizon developer Playground Games. Set to launch in 2025, the highly anticipated action RPG will finally take us back to Albion for the first time in many years.

Our first look at the exciting new adventure came in the initial trailer for Fable 4, which showed off third-person gameplay, the appearance of a giant, and plenty of the series’ signature sense of tongue-in-cheek humor.

Fable is a big part of my gaming past, so I’m desperate for this to be amazing. Playground has a great track record, but can they capture the series’ unique charm? It is coming eventually.

Slated for 2025, but I feel this will be released in 2026.

12. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Turn-Based with a Twist!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 gameplay GIF

Developed by Sandfall Interactive, Sandfall S.A.S, and will be published by Kepler Interactive will be released on 24 April 2025. It will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (Day One with Xbox Game Pass), and PC (Steam & Epic Games Store).

This game looks really good in terms of graphics and animations. However, personally, sometimes I feel how it will perform because most of the gameplay we saw for this game is always around 30 FPS. I mean, most players don’t mind 30 FPS, but c’mon, it’s 2025 – IT SHOULD BE 60 FPS bare minimum.

It already has a 10% sale now!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 gameplay GIF

Once a year, the Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith. Paints her cursed number. And everyone of that age turns to smoke and fades away. Year by year, that number ticks down and more of us are erased. Tomorrow she’ll wake and paint “33.” And tomorrow we depart on our final mission – Destroy the Paintress, so she can never paint death again.

The art style and unique combat system have caught my attention. However, the performance concerns me. I really hope they can optimize it before release!

Coming on 24 April 2025.

13. Monster Hunter Wilds – The Hunt Evolves!

Monster Hunter Wilds characters facing an dragon

Developed and will be published by CAPCOM.

It is set to release on 28 Feb, 2025 on PS5, PC and Xbox Series S|X

The unbridled force of nature runs wild and relentless, with environments transforming drastically from one moment to the next. This is a story of monsters and humans and their struggles to live in harmony in a world of duality.

Fulfill your duty as a Hunter by tracking and defeating powerful monsters and forging strong new weapons and armor from the materials you harvest from your hunt as you uncover the connection between the people of the Forbidden Lands and the locales they inhabit.

The ultimate hunting experience awaits you in Monster Hunter Wilds.

I am already on this hype train! The new monsters look amazing, the environments are dynamic, and the core gameplay loop is as addictive as ever. This is a day-one purchase for me!

Releasing on 28 Feb, 2025.

14. WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers – Chinese Soulslike Action

Wuchang main cover

Developed on Leenzee and will be published by 505 Games.

Set to release this year, but I feel it might go to next year as well.

After the success of Black Myth: Wukong, all other Chinese games are getting highlighted like Wuchang, Phantom blade zero.

Wuchang's character killing a monster

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a soulslike, action RPG set in the land of Shu during the dark and tumultuous late Ming Dynasty, plagued with warring factions and a mysterious illness spawning monstrous creatures.

I feel this one looks promising.

Coming to PS5, PC, and Xbox Series S/X.

Conclusion

So there you have it – my gut reactions to some of the biggest games on the horizon. There’s a lot to be excited about, and my wallet is already crying!
