The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Was Revealed Yesterday—And You Can Play It Now!

Yeahhh, so Bethesda just shadow dropped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered! Last week, rumors started swirling from trusted sources, but I was skeptical. We’ve all heard whispers of projects that never see the light of day. But when I tuned into the Xbox Live showcase, I knew something big was happening.

I’ll be honest with you—I’ve never played any of The Elder Scrolls games. Yes, I know how that sounds. But growing up, I wasn’t into RPGs. My gaming days were all about racing games and story-driven adventures. Still, I’ve heard the hype—people are absolutely crazy about this series. Some have spent tens of thousands of hours in these games, which is mind-blowing.
My RPG Journey

My love for RPGs started with The Witcher 3, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve explored both amazing and not-so-great RPGs, and now, I’m eager to dive into Oblivion Remastered. But here’s the thing—I don’t have the money to buy it right now. Sure, it’s on Xbox Game Pass, but I’ve learned that owning a game feels so much more rewarding than just borrowing it. I realized this after playing Lies of P on Game Pass.
First Impressions of the Remaster
I’ve already watched tons of videos, and players are going wild over how the game looks. And honestly? It’s stunning. What I love most is that the devs kept the soul of the original intact for longtime fans. They’ve retained the fun voice lines, quirky movements, and other nostalgic elements while improving the game in meaningful ways.

As I write this, I’m checking the Steam charts—and wow. There are 83,768 players online right now, with a peak of 182,298 in the last 24 hours. That’s just on Steam! I can only imagine how many Xbox players are diving in thanks to Game Pass.

What’s New in the Remastered Version?

The remaster brings a ton of modern updates while staying true to the original. Here are some of the key changes:
- Visual Overhaul: Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game now features 4K resolution, 60 FPS, and updated textures, lighting, and landscapes.
- Improved Gameplay: New combat animations, enhanced enemy scaling, and smoother mechanics make the game feel modern.
- Quality-of-Life Updates: Redesigned menus, better accessibility features, and additional autosaves.
- Expanded Content: Includes the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions, along with all original DLCs.
- Nostalgic Touches: The devs kept the quirks and charm of the original, like iconic voice lines and some janky movements, which fans are loving.
What’s Next for Me?
I’ll definitely grab this game during a sale—I’m saving up for the Summer Sale because my backlog is already packed. For now, I’m playing The Last of Us Part 2, and I’ll share my thoughts on that soon.
Until then, check out my previous post: Lies of P: How My Second Playthrough Changed Everything.
